Here in the nation’s capital, when it (finally) heats up, the city is like a desert. Dry heat. Warm breeze. No beach. Brown grass and oasis-like green oaks scattered around the suburbs. Suddenly bodies are tanned and faces come to life; the city comes alive. And everybody knows if there’s an orange sun in the sky, the bushfires have come.
This country is the driest inhabited continent in the world. And oddly in summer, when the temperatures soar, the effortlessly cool nature of Australians oozes out.
Desert dwellers unite - but only during the week.
On Saturday I’m busting outta here and hitting up Bondi.
