The Magnificent Andrew Hem

Andrew Hem is an American artist of Cambodian heritage growing up in Los Angeles. His work is inspiring and skillful. Here's a snippet of the blurb featured on his website by Amanda Erlanson.

Andrew Hem's introspective, otherworldly paintings explore realities one step away from our everyday waking life. What if our thoughts flickered across the surface of our skin like ephemeral silent movies? What if spirits walked among us, trying to find their path? What if there were no racism, and even the most outlandish people were accepted? What if the children of Andrew's native land had been allowed to live in peace and thrive?

Fascinated by graffiti at an early age, he honed his skills with graphics and composition on the walls of the city before following a passion for figure drawing to a degree in illustration from Art Center College of Design. Working in gouache, oil and acrylic, he weaves atmospheric, richly textured narratives in a vivid palette of twilight blues enlivened by swaths of deep red and splashes of golden light. His haunting impressions of culture and landscape evoke the life of the spirit through the visionary manifestation of memories and dreams.

Ripe really reccomends that you also check out his blog!

Stanislav Melis }[ Master Glass Creator }[

"There is no doubt that Stanislav Melis significantly contributed to the development of Australian studio glass, above all through his teaching activities.

He personally accelerated the way the Australian public accepts new forms of glass art. His ability to enhance the molecular structure of blown glass surpasses itself & his keen eye for colour grounds his work into a Surrealist, multifaceted, see-through ArtForm.

NewActon Nishi Design Competition

At the beginning of the year TheRipeCollective enter the NewActon Nishi Logo Competition.

In essence Ripes response to the NewActon Nishi Logo Design Competition was creatively intuitive, using organic markers to relay the sponsors key catch phrases, sustainability, affordability & design excellence. The colour palettes were bold & fresh… The layout interpretive.. A well executed response.

Interesting to note that 10 months down the track, NewActon Nishi the sponsor group for the competition, isn’t using the competition winners logo & id for promotional or business use……. ?????.....
Wonder what happened too all that competition hoopla-hoopla & what not.
